Ernie's was on Lankershim Blvd., somewhere south of Magnolia when I lived in the valley 15 years ago. Have no idea whether it's still there, or if it's any good. Anyone?

I've seen ernie's taco house on lankershim within the last year. I think it's still there. maybe I'll give it a try. I've always wondered about it.

    2. I live down the street from Ernie's Jr., which is on Colorado Blvd in Eagle Rock. They serve reasonably good Mexican food, nothing to get too excited about but since its so close I eat there alot. Last week my wife and I happened to be hungry and in North Hollywood, so we went into the original Ernie's on Lankershim. Man, what a difference! The Lankershim location has a great menu with a wide variety of mexican dishes (I had a potato taco). They serve both red and green salsa, both of which tast fresh and are quite hot (Ernie's Jr's salsa seems to be out of a jar). The most interesting thing to me was the Guacamole, which was in texture somewhere between Guacamole and that liquid green avacado sauce that some places serve with taquitos. It had an unusual taste, I wanna say kinda melon-y. I could see where it would be a very refreshing treat on a hot summer day. Points for atmosphere too, lots of dimly lit booths with photos of old Mexico on the wall.
