Online educational resourse for cooking newbie

My friend called me last night stating he wants to learn to cook. He knows very little about cooking. I intend to help him learn. We live far a part, so my teaching will be via phone and email.
Does anyone know of any online resourse that can help with the basics of cooking?
Thanks,
Spencer

I'd suggest: http://startcooking.com/ - step-by-step cooking videos, very well produced - most are geared to beginning cooks.

Food Network seems to have a good basic guide including basic kitchen protocol, safe food handling, etc: http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/ck_co... I've referred to it when trying to explain to DH that we do need to throw out the deli meats that are waaay past due :)
Otherwise, "Help My Apartment Has A Kitchen" is a good basic book to start from.

I'm sure there are many others here who will have lots of ideas...and I know this topic has been covered before. A quick search of the board will probably yield a few threads on the topic.

      Good Luck :)
