Brazilian for birthday group dinner?

I'm trying to plan my husband's 30th birthday dinner for 10-12 people for a couple of weeks from now. He really wants Brazilian food, preferably somewhere with great steaks. Any suggestions for potential locations? Any thoughts on Churrascaria Plataforma, Carne Vale, or Delicia Brazil?

    I like Churrascaria Plataforma very much, for meat I think it's your best option in NYC. The salada bar and service are also very good. It's a fun place for groups. I went to Porcao only once, but I prefer Plataforma. I have never been to Carne Vale.
    Delicia is very good, but the service is REALLY slow. Also, I wouldn't go there for steaks.
    Zebu Grill is another option, although the meat is better at Plataforma.

      I can second the recommendation for Churrascaria Plataforma. I went to a party there last summer, and it was a blast. Just be sure to advise everyonoe not to fill up on the salad bar. And I'd avoid that cocktail they make with Brazilian moonshine (name escapes me at the moment).

        I agree about Plataforma but I MUCH prefer the Tribeca branch to the one in the theatre district. The former has sleek decor and is far less touristy and rushed than the one in midtown west.

        Third the Plataforma. The moonshine you're thinking of is cachaca.

          I ADORE cachaca :) And now I am beginning to crave steak, too...

              Yes, cachaça is Brazilian sugar cane alcohol. The quintessential Brazilian cocktail made with cachaça is the caipirinha (translation: little hick or hillbilly) which is made by combining it with limes muddled with sugar and ice.

                I like Plataforma as well. Be aware that the servers carrying the skewers of meat will bring the cheaper cuts first (sausage and chicken) hoping that you'll fill up before the more expensive stuff comes around. The sausage is tasty enough but if you're going to be with some steak lovers they should be warned.

                The other thing is that festive "all you can eat" atmosphere can often inspire an "all you can drink" reaction on the part of guests. Drinks there are pricey and the bar bill can easily double the cost of the meal. If cost is an issue you'll want to keep that in mind.

                The same with the dessert cart. It's not part of the "all you can eat" deal so be careful.

            i love churrascaria plataforma! i've only eaten at the one in midtown (though i can't wait to try the tribeca location on my birthday).. it's decadence at it's finest. the sushi and salad bars are fresh and delicious (not to mention all-you-can-eat), and the meat is always succulent and fresh. the perfect place for a huge group of friends to relax for a few hours. call ahead and see if you can BYOB.
            if you want to go somewhere smaller, i would try zebu grill; on 92nd between 1st and 2nd avenues. the food is authentic and the space would be perfect for an intimate gathering of friends.
