Uncle Andre's BBQ review & photo

Hypnotic23 Dec 31, 2007 07:58 AM

First off, I know a bunch of people on this board dont care for this spot yet I sure do!

Had it again last night, called in my order 30 minutes prior and picked it up.

I had the combo meal all this for $15.95

1 boneless beef rib (See photo) this is enough for a second meal alone
1/2 baby back pork ribs
1 hot link-excellent with a good snap when you bite into it
and 1 piece of chicken your pick-fried or BBQ, I had a breast
+
2 sides, I had the red beans with rice & mac n cheese

So good for a neighborhood spot, Studio City that is :>)

Happy New Year,

Stuart

Uncle Andre's is lame. Two other places are nearby and much better.

      Mom's, 14062 Vanowen St, Van Nuys, (818) 786-1373.

      Swinging Door BBQ

I disagree 100%, I thought Swinging Door was disgusting, as for as Mom's go, I do like the food there too yet nothing special.

Look up BBQ. It involves smoking meat.

Uncle Andre's doesn't do this. You like their meat. Fine. Maybe you don't like BBQ. The SD smokes their meat.

I also agree about swinging door's being disgusting, yet also feel Andre's just paints the meat with the sauce rather than smoking the meat, as opposed to Boneyard's actually smoking their meat in the kitchen and serving the sauce on the side.
Yes, apples and oranges regarding economics, yet...
ps - heard that the owners of swinging door are moving back to Texas.

Carter, couldn't agree with you more, I also enjoy Boneyard Bistro.

Also Diane the photo does work above, in my 2nd post.

              Happy New Year to everyone,

The Swinging Door is disgusting? That's pretty strong language - please explain. While their BBQ is not the best I've had, I've found it good across the board. I'd be interested in learning why you thought it was disgusting.

It is as much a reflection of the setting, the cleanliness, etc. as much as some of the food not being all that special. It is nowhere near as clean as Andre's as an example, regardless of food quality issues.
fwiw - they are trying to sell the place from what I hear and move back to Texas.

Can't comment on Andre's, but find Swinging Door underwhelming. 'Cue nothing special. Only ordered to go, but the room is, well, it matches the rest of the neighborhood. (Next to a gas station/car wash,Thai kickboxing academy at the other end of the block.)

I like SW very much. And - as for Andre's ... that's a big "Faux Q !" OK, terrible pun ... but, Andre's is not BBQ ... it's better 'n average grilled meat.

On my way home from work, I've dropped by Uncle Andre's. I think this place should change its name from Uncle Andre's BBQ to Uncle Andre's Southern Kitchen or something similar because as others have pointed out, it's not "true" BBQ.

Regardless, the food is good for what it is...
