Edible Gold Foil

rosario Dec 30, 2007 06:28 PM

I am planning to make champagne gelee (cut into 1/4 inch dice) to serve with fois gras. Does anyone know where I can buy edible gold foil flakes to include in the jelly as it sets?

Thanks in advance for your help.

You're getting short on time if this is for a new year's festivity. Maybe buy a Goldwasser and strain it out, or work it into the jelly? Gold leaf is available to numerous trades, from the arts to historical restoration, with a lead time of weeks. It is not categorized between edible or not. You can eat all the gold you want ( it's an inert element) and feel like a king on your porcelain throne the next morning :)

Thanks Veggo. I repeated my question just now because Chowhound 'puter was giving me an error message when I open a new topic saying is could not be posted. I guess their error message is in error! BTW it is not for New Years so np with the timing.

I'm not sure if it's edible, but they sell gold foil at Omer DeSerres. As I recall, that's all they use to drape over cakes in fancy establishments.
