  1. Dear Kevin, strawberries are ALWAYS in season in LA. Just go to your nearest farmer's market (check latimes.com) and buy the local berries. DON'T buy them at the supermarket unless you're really not fussy at all. P.S. if you're really a strawberry hog, wait for another couple of months and go to some of the pick-your-own places in Oxnard and Camarillo. (Full info at your friendly farmer's market.)

Ugh, I beg to differ. Strawberries are always available in L.A., but they might as well be plastic replicas. They will continue to be beautiful and horribly tasteless for a couple more months. When the weather warms up -- and I mean at least 80 degrees -- you'll be able to find "real" berries at the local farmer's markets. (I am partial to the vendor, Harry's Berries. Won't buy from anyone else and especially not supermarkets!) Late April is when the strawberries usually get good. Hit a farmer's market (there's one almost daily somewhere in L.A.) a day or two AFTER a hot day. Sugar production is directly related to heat.

I agree. Harry's Berries are the best! They aren't the best looking or the cheapest, but they're the sweetest strawberries I've ever tastest.

Harry has multiple trucks that "do" the Farmer's market circuit. He hasn't been seen since last summer, but when the Oxnard berries appear (Aprilish), he will be at the Pasadena (Villa Park) market on Tuesdays, the Pasadena (Victory Park) Market on Saturdays and the Alhambra (Mervyn's mall) market on Sundays. All these are morning markets, 9a.m. to 1 p.m.

I can't remember, but I think Harry may appear at the South Pas market (Meridian Street) on Thursday afternoons, 4-7 p.m., too.

      2. If you're really into strawberries, you might also want to check out the Strawberry Festival in Oxnard. I believe it's being held May 19-20.

Strawberries from the farms up in Oxnard/Ventura are the best! I grew up in Ventura and, as a result, cannot bear to eat supermarket berries.

        1. little shack on lewis rd just north of las posas will be open in march. right next to a fitness center.

spend the day at the outlets to make it worth your while.
