Thing of a kitchen makeover. I like the idea of adjustable work heights, simple design, and useability. I am not a fan of overwrought faux antiique kitchens. I think the clean designs of the above 2 firm have a real appeal. Has anyone worked in one of them? care to share your experiences?

I would buy an American made product that's similar rather than a German product.
European cabinetry only comes in metric sizes; does not have the standard size range of American cabinets and base cabinets are not quite 24" deep.
Fitting American appliances becomes more difficult.
Try Crystal's Quest

It's a green product, very well made in Iowa, and completely custom.
Of course, if it's more important to you to own a "name", that's up to you.

I have worked with clients who have used the Poggenpohl products, Poggenpohl makes very nicely finished cabinets that fit into American kitchens very well. I believe they are still a "design leader" and a visit to the showrooms can give you an idea of what will be more common in a few years. The prices are high, but mostly you can tell the features and quality are there -- things like electrically closed cabinets and each side finished to the same standards are simply not available elsewhere.
The only problem is cost and selection -- you can easily spend as much on single wall of Poggenpohl as you spend on whole house of other cabinets, and they don't have as many options as some of the similar high end companies -- you have to like their look, and their unique functional features, you probably can't live without it -- like a Ferrari enthusiast!
I have seen the Bulthaup showroom, the business model is not friendly to the US custom of having separate contracts for design, construction and product sourcing. It looks nice, but I have reservations about the company.
There is a company called "henrybuilt" that makes products like the Europeans, in the same "refined" look and they have showrooms in Seattle and NY. Might be much closer to what you have in mind, and easier to work with, though I'mnot sure about total pricing...

No offense to Crystal, but they are not a Euro-style cabinet -- theough they ought o be a lot more affordable!
