Restaurants near le Square Phillip

Need restaurants within walking distance of le Square Phillip. Casual, not too expensive. Any cuisines will do. Thank you in advance.

  1. Hiya, that's a pretty wide area (it's right downtown + walking distance from Old Montreal and Chinatown) - any chance of narrowing the options a bit? What kind of cuisine do you prefer?

If you like sushi, there's a good place in a not-so-obvious location a few floors up in an office building just around the corner from Phillip's Square:

    Zen Ya
    486 rue Ste-Catherine O.

If you like Chinese, I'd walk to Chinatown and hit Hong Kong, Beijing, Mon Nan (upstairs for their specialty, Peking duck), Maison V.I.P if you can get in, or Lotte Furama for dim sum.

Thank you for the suggestions. We are from Florida, visiting Montreal and it is snowing here. As much as the snow is a fun novelty for us, we would like to minimize our outdoor walking. We went to Vieux Montreal yesterday and would like to stay closer to the square. Maybe something along St. Catherine?

    2. Le Grand Comptoir is a reasonably priced bistro a few doors down from the hotel on Place Phillip that is very popular for lunch.

If you go, you must try the Andouillette with sauce moutarde at Grand Comptoir. One of the best reasons to go there... but you better like andouillette, it may not be everyones favorite sausage. But theirs is an excellent homemade sausage, very well spiced and chunky.

      2. 3 blocks west is Simon's department store, and in the basement food court you'll find a pretty decent Thai place. Diagonally across the street, in the "Sports Experts" building is Basha, a very good Lebanese place for lunch.

        1. There is Alexandre's (1554 Peel) a bistro with a generally upbeat atmosphere.
