Looking for a place for lunch on Monday for 5 kids and 7 adults. Know about Bucca, Chevy's, Mel's but would like something with better food. Not sure that Lulu would work for all of the kids. Any other ideas? Don't want to do the food court in the Metreon but want to be within walking distance. Looks like we are going skating at the rink by Moscone since the weather looks lousy skating at the Embarcadero. Thanks for any ideas.

Lulu might work during lunch. It's certainly less busy and it's bright and cheery enough during the day. I'd call. The menu however might be another deal.

You might check out Mo's burger. It's not in Metreon Center but on the terrace overlooking Yerba Buena.

It's advertised as brewpub and tapas, but I think that description short-changes it.

A little bit of a walk but perhaps the food court at Westfield San Francisco Centre on Market? Out the Door, serving Vietnamese food, is pretty good. Kids can have spring rolls & noodle dishes. Another rec is Thirsty Bear, a brew pub with Spanish menu. However, don't know if kids would like it.

I like Thirsty Bear but I wouldn't take kids. It's dark-ish and noisy (like a bar) and not very kid or family friendly..a majority of the tables are high w/ high stools and small. There are a couple large regular height tables in the back and it's quieter...if that helps. For a crowd, you might try Buca di Beppo, although you'll have to judge the quality of food vs. purpose.

We were at Thirsty Bear last night for a very early dinner (5:00) and there many kids there (we had a little one with us as well and the waitstaff was very nice--I think they're very used to having people bring their kids early on weekends). We had a great time and the lamb burgers were superb.

If you have kids and brought them..then you obviously know what works. My experience has always been at night or after work - which is a complete zoo. (Don't ever go if there's a convention at Moscone.)

Re: SFMOMA and Thirsty Bear

I think both are really good, tho very different. Unless something has changed, I think it would be much more difficult to seat 12 at the SFMOMA cafe. It's the kind of place where you stand in line to order. I don't know if you can contact them and reserve anything.

I originally suggested Thirsty Bear, tho with a bit of caution so that Cheesy Oysters could check out the website and menu and see if it might work. In my experience, it does have a different atmosphere at lunch v. after work/eve. Also- one could call and have a chat with them and decide if the 7 adults/ 5 kids would fit in with their other reservations. There is a separated upstairs area that might be a thought to discuss with them, if it's not already reserved.by another group.

I'll be curious to hear what you end up doing and how it worked out.

I also just thought of Chaat Cafe at 3rd & Folsom. It is a (small) chain, but I've had some delicious dishes there (mostly the chaat). I can't tell when they're open from their website, though.
