Does anyone have any dessert receipes that use Yuzu?
I was going to make candied yuzu peel (and maybe a salad dressing with the yuzu juice) last week and went to the Japanese market to buy some.
I found them at Mitsuwa Marketplace in Little Tokyo in Los Angeles. They were $29.99 a POUND! Yee! That meant one was about $8.
Needless to say, I did not buy one.
I think something like Lemon Bars made with yuzu would be fantastic though.
(I've also been looking for Kalamansi in Los Angeles.)
The yuzu tree will grow in Southern California. We bought ours at the San Gabriel Nursery, but I don't remember at what time of the year. Call them and inquire.
Our tree is less than two years old and about 5 feet tall; it has produced, although not profusely yet. As with most citrus, it will take some time to establish itself. But even if you get one fruit, you can enjoy something really exotic.
By the way, I am told that only the skin has the great flavor; most Japanese users that I have discussed this with say that it is the skin that is used and not the juice.
