Bing - Buns...

Hello and thank you for your attention. A year ago ( Dec. 24 2006 ) My family and myself, visited Bryant Park, and we tried something called" bing bun ". I was hoping that when we visited the Park again thisyear that we would be getting some more of those buns. Unfortunately, when we got to the park, the bing bun lady was nowhere to be found. You would believe the disappointment that came over all of us ! Thosebuns - the meat ones, the veggie ones, they are so damn good.It would be so wonderful to have those buns again. You wouldn't bychance have any idea where she is, would you?Thank you very much for any help that you can provide.

  1. Do you mean Washington Square Park? Roll and Dough aka. the Bing Lady? If so that spot closed but she has a place still somewhere in Queens. I miss those bings too :(

Thank you, they are good - aren't they? I did try that address in Queens, to no avail, but just to make sure - is 40th Rd. just south of the LIRR off of Main St.?

I'm not sure where 40th Road is, but I'm pretty sure that the first block south of the LIRR is 40th Avenue (with the Starbucks on the corner). Maybe try Mapquest.

The 40th Road one is long gone. I did see some bings being sold at one of the front stalls in the food mall at 41-82 Main St, Flushing.

What's in the 40th Road space now? For a long time after they opened the Village shop, they kept that one operating (though not open to the public). I assumed they were using the kitchen to supply other locations. Have they now given it up entirely?

                1. re: squid kun

Last time I passed by it was an empty storefront, but it is possible that it was in use as a kitchen and closed when I walked past at 8 PM.

Thanks - But where in relation to the LIRR and Main St. is this Mall that you're talking about? Sorry, I'm not real familair with this area.

                  1. re: chckoh

As Brian says, it's right on Main. It's around three blocks south of LIRR, west side of the street. The stall that sells bing is on the right side after you enter.

the stall is near the street, so you could just grab a bing, pay and leave. But you should really explore that whole food court. If you don't, then you've missed one of New York's most incredible places.

If you are coming from the LIRR, and you see the subway station, you are walking the WRONG WAY! It's south, past the big library (but not on the same side of the street as the library)

                  2. re: Brian S

The people who sold bings at the mall at 41-82 Main now sell their bings toward the back of a Chinese fast-food joint at 41-40 Main. I also saw a stall toward the back of the ground floor of the mall at 41-28 Main that apparently has bings. (they looked like bings, I didn't try one)

            2. I just passed by the old 135-23 40th Road location -- and it was OPEN!! I spoke to the woman who runs it and she says that she is looking for a shop location in midtown Manhattan and when she finds it, she'll sell bings there. The 40th Road place doesn't sell bings now... but she said if a regular customer calls in advance and orders bings (even if it's just one bing), she' will make the bings for pickup at 40th road.

man ' O man... (LOL) Was there from 11am to 2pm today only to find that the mall is CLOSED! I did see two women inside the old place but to my misfortune I could'nt comunicate with them( my lose). The new place on 40th Rd. Thanks you though for all of your info. Can I just go there and buy some ?

You have to phone and speak to the owner. (718) 888-7790 She speaks good English.

                2. Do you mean Union Square Park?
Vanessa's Dumpling at 220 E 14 st has a quite variety of buns, and pancakes. For $1.99, you can get 4 small pan fried buns, you do have to wait sometimes, but worth it. 99cents, you can a big steamed port/veg, veg or sweet red beans.---Great Value! Dumplings are great when they are fresh off the pot.

not the one that we're talking about - but your's sounds like it might be worth the trip from L.I. - who knows, right.
                    Thanks

                    1. re: sherrii

Vanessa's is apparently related to one of Chinatown's best-loved dumpling places.
