Citra in Hartford - Good News

With all the talk of Citra closing I decided to send them an email. I just received a response. They are indeed open. It seems that many of us enjoy the restaurant and it is true that business has been on the slow side when most of us went. Here's our chance to send a message of support. It would be a shame to lose a place of this caliber. I will be going this Friday, the 28th. Let's see if we can pass the word among our friends and fellow CH's and all go this weekend. I've gone three times and found the place truly amazing. You won't be sorry.
Once again it's at 360 Franklin Ave. in Hartford.

Tried it tonight and the food was outstanding. Service was slow (30 minutes to get a 1st glass of wine - only 7 patrons?), but later food courses silenced any complaints. Chef Carlton Rogers (I think he said) trained at Le Cordon Bleu and told me he had also worked in Marseilles. In any case, he prepared some seriously good food! You should definitely try it (just forget about the phone number on their website).

I guess I was one of the seven people in Citra Friday night :-) Once again, Chef Carlton did not disappoint. I asked about the phone number on the web site and he told me that this was put up by the web site itself. It's a way of tracking phone calls for the restaurant. However it can't track if the number is disconnected. The direct phone number to the restaurant is 860-296-7088.

Thinking about going there this weekend. What should I order?

My personal favorite meal would start with the Citra house salad. Followed by the ox tail osso bucco (which they ran out of last night), topped off with Chef's decadent bread pudding with a white chocolate sauce. Please let us know how you liked it.

Amiz71, you and mallomarmom are so right about this place. Thank you! I had a feeling that a fellow CH'er was there Friday. Then, (duh), I reviewed your post that said you were going to be there. So, anyway, you two are responsible for a good chunk of their business that night. Excellent use of the Chowhound site!

I am so delighted that you had a good experience there. The food is truly outstanding and the restaurant is an undiscovered "gem" as I said in my original post. Please do everything you can do pass the word and keep this place open. This talented chef knows food better than business, but he's learning! Thanks for your willingness to give him a try. Happy New Year!

Sorry, I started that rumor since the phone number listed on their website said "temporarily disconnected". Actually, I just tried it again and it still says that. I will email them and let them know they need to do something about that. Not great for business!

I was in the neighborhood the other night and stopped by to see if there were any signs up indicating why they might be closed. Didn't see any, so I optimistically figured they were closed for vacation. Great news. Amiz71! Thanks for the update. Let's keep this restaurant open and the Citra talk active and on top of the Board to help keep the awareness up.
