Group dinner - West LA - Sat. night - budget...ideas?

Desperately seeking Chowhound recommendations.
The situation: Saturday night birthday dinner for 10-15 people, West LA/Culver City/Century City (will take Venice, Santa Monica too), close to or under $10-15/person. Preferably someplace we could hit on the fly, per Saturday night's prevailing group opinion - no one will mind cooling their heels in a bar for 20 minutes but I don't want to get involved in the dance of making/breaking half a dozen reservations if possible.
I'll have some out-of-area budget eaters serious about their chow (including myself), and I'd like to knock some socks off.
My one thought was the oft-mentioned Nanbankan but I'm considering the warnings about seating large parties there.
Thanks a bunch in advance. Will definitely let you know where we end up!
You might call Tia Juana on Olympic near Barrington I believe. They aren't that pricy, the antojitos are quite good for the west side and check if the woman will be there making the handmade tortillas which alone are worth the price of admission. If you watch your orders, it can be reasonable, if you drink like fish, it won't be. BUT CALL to make sure they can seat a large party.
