Bagels in Scottsdale
Help!
As an easterner I am accustomed to eating great bagels, the old school kind. Chewy crust and a dense middle. None of those pseudo bagels with chocolate chips or blueberrries. Just salt, poppy seeds, sesame seeds and sometimes onion, or even a mix of all of the above. Not to forget Montreal style style bagels which are on the sweet side having been boiled in water with honey.
I have tried Chompies which are not bad, and Cashmans which are a mediocre imitation of a real bagel. Forget about supermarket bagelels.
Any suggestions short of having them shipped from Essabagel in NY?

I finally tried the bagels at Big City and they are fantastic! Way better than Chompie's. I also tried their smoked whitefish salad recommended on another thread and it is unbelievably good. That is what I am having for lunch today, w/ crackers.
I can't believe it took me this long to try them . . . I live a mile away.

Here are a few bagel places that may be closer to what you are looking for!
I too am from the East Coast and it has been a difficult transition adjusting to the lack of great bagel places....1.) my new favorite thanks to fellow Chowhounder ejs1492 is Big City Bagels on Hayden and Frank Lloyd Wright. I love their bagels and I can't get enough of their whitefish salad. I have been buying it by the pound!!!
2.) Lock Stock and Bagel on McCormick Ranch...great bagels and bialys.
3.) New York Bagels and Bialys on Shea @ Agua Caliente....I am partial to their onion Bialys....reminds me of H & H in NY.
