Open Note to Matt Groening
Thanks VERY much for mentioning the site in your LA Times interview which was published today (the more people who know about us, the greater the pool of chow info we all enjoy):
"And I love a site called Chowhound, which is an enthusiastic gourmand Web site that has discussions of great food all around the country. It's the anti-Zagat's, for people who like food a little spicier. It's not completely reliable, by the way"
...but one thing: Sure, our tips are not "completely reliable". There IS no "completely reliable" source of food tips anywhere. If there were, there wouldn't have been a need to build this site! Even one's own opinion is unreliable, because restaurants change (usually for the worse) all the time.
It's all a matter of relative reliability...and I think you'll agree that, pound for pound, the aggregate quality of the tips on these boards beat most any other source of restaurant info.
So while a slightly skeptical eye is always appropriate--even here--I hope potential chowhound visitors/contributors don't come in viewing our community with an OVERLY suspicious eye.
