PLEASE HELP - L'Impero vs. A Voce

I reserved both for a birthday dinner (two people), wed. night, but can't decide. Ideally looking for exceptional cuisine with a refined ambiance (nothing too stuffy).

Which one would you prefer?

THANK YOU.

We have not been back to A Voce since our one dinner there shortly after it opened because when the room filled up, the noise level was so insanely high, it was impossible to carry on a civilized conversation. Definitely not my idea of refined ambiance. Unfortunate, because the food we had was excellent.

L'Impero is a wonderful restaurant. We've had two dinners there since Chef Michael White took over, most recently three weeks ago, and both have been superb. The only quibble I had was that the dessert we shared in August was disappointing. However, with the hiring of a new pastry chef, that issue has been nicely addressed. The wine list is excellent. Service is friendly and efficient. The ambiance is just what you are looking for: refined but not stuffy. The space has understated elegant decor and a noise level that, while not funereal, never impedes conversation. Overall, a perfect place to celebrate a special occasion.

    Enjoy and Buon Apetito!

Totally agree that L'imperio is the better choice. We always find them to be "smart" for lack of a better word. For instance, if they are not fully booked, they offer the larger more comfortable table to a party of 2. Love the staff and the food is amazing.
      enjoy enjoy!!

Thanks for all the input. Going to go with L'Impero.
