Tips for Dining, Eating, and Food Shopping in Manhattan

Steakhouse or Little Italy?

We are visiting NYC next week 12/26-28 for our anniversary. We are staying at the Milennium Financial District and attending Curtains matinee on the 26th. Not new to NYC, just always looking for suggestions. We are considering a Steak house, but love some of the restaurants in Little Italy, cant remember their names.
Thanks
Mary

  1. I work right next to Little Italy and while there are in fact some gems for Italian food (and pizza) if you want to experience truly authentic Italian food head over to Carbone in Hells Kitchen. The food is absolutely amazing And ez to get to from the FinDi or Midtown.

The Putanesca, which I use as a benchmark for Italian restaurants, is phenomonal and while the place is small, the setting is intimate and jovial amongst the employees and the other diners.

But if steakhouse is another option there are too many to choose from. Bobby Van's is a classic and Smith and Wollensky's is tough to beat. If you want something a bit more exotic, head to the Churrascaria Riodizio Tribeca. Brazilian steakhouse where they carve as much meet as you can eat and meats range from Filet Mignon, to Duck, to Ribeye and more. Highly recommended.

    1. If you decide to go the steakhouse route, my pick would definitely be our favorite, Keens. It's been in its 36th St. location, b/t 5th & 6th Avs. (closer to 6th), since 1885. Thus, in addition to delicious food and excellent service, there is unmatchable old NY ambiance.

      Enjoy and Happy Anniversary!
