Where Would You Go, Money No Object!

kawarthagirl Dec 23, 2007 04:03 AM

I need to set up a celebration dinner for 3 in the next 2 months - where would you go in Toronto (so we can cab it from Bayview & Eglinton) if money was no object?

Bearing in mind that one person in the group is my mother and we're not looking for a club scene. Elegant... Gorgeous... Impeccable service... Exquisite food... Superb drinks...

Easy, only one place......Scaramouche. Don't let anyone tell you different.

Splendido for the complete package! Top five in food, tops in service, tops in wine service, nice ambience.

My good friend from San Diego had dined @ Splendido once and enjoyed it so much that upon his return, he proposed to his fiance at the end of their meal. Needless to say, the waiter he had was very cooperative and attentive in his little secret and they both enjoyed a great evening there.

We're booked to go in February. If it's better than Scaramouche I will be very happy to say the least. Can't wait!!!

I'm sure you'll have a nice time. Best way to enjoy the Splendido experience is to have their tasting menu with wine pairing, Sommelier 'Carlo' can be 'fun'! Enjoy!!

May be superfluous now, in view of the above comments, but I've been to both Scaramouche and Splendido in the past month.
Scaramouche was solid, reliable (as always) but strangely unexciting. The menu (and room) seemed to be stuck in the past - but was beautifully executed and well worth it. Just seems as if time has passed it by - but if you're into nostalgia still a great place.

Splendido, in contrast, was exciting. Service was perfect (as always) but David Lee's food is getting even better. I even commented that David may be the most UNDERrated chef in Toronto - seems strange to consider him underrated when Splendido is on everybody's list of the finer places in Toronto.
My best meal of the year (in Toronto anyway).

I can't wait to try Splendido out. But I have to disagree on Scaramouche's decor being dated. Each time I go I love the simplicity and quiet elegance of the room. I think it was beautifully designed in that the focus is on the view and the food. I love that it's understated and hope the new place will have the same feel to it.

            Fair enough.
I used to have teak furniture too!

I thought Scandinavian teak furniture was cool again.
                Am I misinformed?
