Radio City in February - help with Chow!

cowgirlinthesand Dec 22, 2007 08:00 PM

Hi!~ Berkshire chowhounds will be in NYC for the Gipsy King's Show at Radio City. We're looking for the best ethnic Chinese or Mexican in that area - cheap is a huge plus :) Thai would also be great. We don't know the city at all so we're really looking for your guidance.
Thanks in advance - and Happy Holidays!

I like Topaz Thai—especially now, with the new cook and the new menu. But I also like Pongsri Thai, on 48th between Broadway and 8th, which is a little closer to Radio City.

There is a really inexpensive Mexican, next to Virgils on 44th & 7th. Well within walking distance to RC. CHEAP.

Wu Liang Ye, on 48th St., b/t 5th & 6th Avs., serves very good Szechuan cuisine.

If you want to try something a bit different, try Hage Sake Bar, 152 West 49th st, downstairs. It's a type of restaurant/bar that is said to be very typical in Japan, but not typical here. Favorite dish is the spaghetti with spicy cod row cream sauce. The mushrooms, eggplant etc cooked on the grill (very small dishes) are great too, with a mug of Sapporo. Literally 1 block from Radio City. Doesn't open till around 6.30 pm.

Is Hage Sake Bar still there? I tried googling and Zagat, and no listing.

It's Sake Bar Hagi, and it's still there.

If you are willing to walk towards 9th Ave, try Tiny Thai (b/w 47th & 48th Streets). Delicious food. Alternatively, right around the corner (but on 47th and 9th) is Pam. Also very good Thai.

I do love Topaz (mentioned before). Go there for lunch all the time.
