This place is mentioned in guidebooks and attracts a large clientele. The address is Rua das Portas de Santo Antão 58. Go early or late - or be prepared to wait. It is upstairs in a beautifully-decorated building and has lavishly tiled walls (photo 1). The typical Portugese appetizers of chorizo, cheese, olives, and bread (photo 2) are on the table when you arrive. If you don’t want these, ask for them to be taken away; otherwise you will be charged even if you don’t eat them. We really enjoyed the codfish (bacalao) and chickpea salad (photo 3). It had a few bits of kale and shallots and, interestingly, no garlic. Grilled dory was very nice and the lamb pot-au-feu was sensational (photo 4). The check included a bottle of Monsaraz Alentejo white wine (reasonably good) and came to €50.
