restaurant recs for charlotte
I'm originally from charlotte but haven't been back for 5 years. I'm amazed at how much it has changed.
I know a lot of the great old charlotte restaurants that I used to go to when I lived here:
Price's, Showmars, Liberty East.
Since I'll be here for a few days I want to see what else the city has to offer. If there are any charlotteans that would offer their advice on great places to eat in the city please post them here. Thanks.
What are you looking for? Casual, upscale, ethnic, etc.? Something that fits those 3 categories and is on the east side is Lulu's on Central Ave, my personal all-round favorite restaurant. Others that are casual yet creative: Ilios Noche & Nolen Kitchen (same owners, different locations). Very casual good eats can be found at The Penguin, Dish (same east side area). Ethnic - Cuisine Maylaya, Banchok Ocha and some others that I haven't personally tried but are regularly recommended (La Unica, Dim Sum, Copper).
I don't get the impression you're looking for fine dining. Price's still exists and has been recognized nationally by Bon Appetit or Gourmet. Shomars is still expanding. I'm not familiar w/ Liberty East.
Enjoy your visit back here and eat well!
p.s. Do a search for Charlotte and there are plenty of recs.
Totally agree with Lynn: If you are looking for places in the Price's/Showmars category, then try Penguin and dish. For a good dinner out, I would second Lulu's.
Other good places: Roosters, Sole, Las Ramblas, and Ilios Noche.
Lulu is my #1 choice as well. Another great option is Greek Isles on Bland Street. It's a fun place with excellent food. Price's is a special place, did you really think of Showmars and Liberty East as great places? I mean as fast food places they are high on the food chain but have you been missing them? Have you traveled back here to eat there?
I doubt it. Go for Lulu, Greek Isles or try Fiamma for some great Italian. Charlotte's come a long way baby. Enjoy!!!!
