Dallas Tortilla and Tamale Factory
Over a month ago I ordered tamales from our tamale shop, Dallas Tortilla and Tamale Factory. We go to the Lewisville, TX location. We do a meatless Christmas Eve....so I special ordered bean and cheese ones. This place does not use lard, they use vegetable shortening so I knew it was fine. Again....these were ordered over a month ago.
I was due to pick them up this morning.
8:45 am today I get a phone call. They are not going to accomodate me. They decided they were too busy to special make bean ones. I told them I had ordered them over a MONTH ago. They couldn't tell me this then? That now it is too late for me to order tamales anywhere. They were absolutely non-apologetic! Basically told me tough luck! Said they would set aside some meat ones, even though I didn't order them, and I could buy those instead. They didn't even offer them free to me! I told them I didn't need meat....we don't eat meat on Christmas Eve....and she basically told me too bad, so sad.
After I calmed down I called Central Market. I know they make tamales every day. Even bean ones. I explained what happened and Lori in catering snagged a few dozen of their vegetarian tamales and is keeping them for me. They are a LOT more expensive than my ex-tamale shop, but at least I will have them.
I am glad it worked out, but I am FURIOUS they would not tell me weeks ago!

I'm sorry to hear about your experience with Dallas Tortilla and Tamale. I live in Oak Cliff and got some of their pok tamales Christmas eve when I couldn't get them from the Tamale House on Columbia in Dallas - sold out. If you've ever had a real home made tamale you'd know that Dallas Tortilla and Tamale's aren't that great. Anyone know where else to get GOOD tamales - vegeterian and otherwise - in Dallas?

I've had pretty good luck at La Popular, brought them into work and peeps seem to love them. I also did have a problem ordering one time from La Popular. I used their e-mail ordering system and when I arrived to pick up my order they stated that the person that filled the e-mail orders hadn't been there for a couple of days...
