In praise of Thermapen

Just used my early-opened Xmas present food thermometer and I wonder why I didnt splurge and buy one before. It made a huge diference in not having to guess or slice up a thick bone in pork chop to test for doneness - try one and you will be amazed- anyone had opposite results?

I was so disappointed in my digital thermometer that I have used for years. It is the kind with the probe that you leave in the meat as it roasts. It told us the meat was done too early both at Thanksgiving and at Christmas. I have been thinking of replacing it with a Thermapen. Did you find a good price somewhere?

I got it for $89 from chefsresource.com. I don't know if that's a good price or not, and I've never ordered from them before. Amazon has it listed, but no price b/c it is out of stock. the reviews of it there are very good though.

got mine at King Arthur Flour web site - 89.00 and no shipping fees - only had red (the color I Wanted anyway)- ENJOY!

The price is the same everywhere. No discounts on these things. But it's worth it. I bought one for myself several months ago, and then subsequently bought one for my sister.

          Money well spent.

      2. we used our new thermapen yesterday to check the temp of the ham. It's so nice! it's so quick! we will be using this all the time now.

        1. I have had my thermapen for about a year now. It is so much better than my previous instant reads; mainly in that it reads FAST. Also, nice, big readout. For what it's worth, it is the top choice of ATK/CI. An instant read is really a basic kitchen necessity, and this one is great, although a bit pricey.
