re: Peter Cherches
Ate at WLY the other day after looking at the tree (nice one this year). Had a dish off the specials menu called "steamed spareribs with roast spice rice and sichuan peppers" (or something like that). What came out was a large hemisphere of very small grain rice (almost like a rice couscous) studded with bite sized pieces of steamed spare ribs (bone in). The spicing was complex and completely delicious - it wasn't quite like any dish I've had before. The dan-dan noodles we started with were great, as always.
Fact is, outside of Chinatown there aren't many restaurants like WLY in Manhattan, especially in midtown. Go there!
