Shabu Zen open in Allston
I forgot to mention this before - walking home from Gitlo's Wednesday night, BFP and I noticed that the new Shabu Zen branch in Allston (on Brighton Avenue, where Greenfields had been) was open and bustling.

Exciting! I've been wanting to go out for shabu shabu for a long time - I've only had it made by a roommate of mine before. How does the ordering work - is it a sharing platter? (I had a look at the menu but wasn't sure.) I've got a friend coming into town and this would be a wonderful way to spend an evening, but I want to make sure it won't melt our wallets first.

re: polias
if you sit at the bar, then you each have your own pot, you can choose from different soup stocks (regular, herbal, tom yum, spicy) then you can order a set which includes a plate of meat, plate of veggies, and a choice between udon (noodles), vermicelli, or rice. or you could just order plates of meat or sides (ie, mushrooms, tofu, beef tongue, etc)
if you sit at a table, you have an option of having 1 pot of soup, or a pot thats split in the middle and you can choose two types of soup. you can share everything.
i always order A1: beef, veggies, and udon. my bf always orders two C1s which is beef.
