I have had food delivered from Ate and was very pleased with the selection. The food is healthy and the menu inventive. I know several other people who have used them for gifts after new babies arrive or things of the sort and many have remained regular customers because the quality is so high.

THANK YOU to everyone who contributed ideas! Just to round out the list, I received two additional recommendations:
http://www.dishalicious.com/ - Meals with support of local farmers/producers
http://www.trishdelish.com/ - Organic soups, salads, entrees, baked goods -
Someone posted a while back about a similar service that delivered French cuisine, but I can't find the thread.
Nevermind, found it. It's Le Marseillais - http://www.bistrolemarseillais.com/de... - run by folks from Chez Nous.

Studio Kitchen also has a delivery service and you can pick which entrees you want from their monthly menu.

I've used Diet Gourmet, many times, they deliver, or you can pick-up.
You can order online, or by phone, for about 20.00 a day (excluding delivery) -
you might also want to try Casserole Queens at www.casserolequeens.com
They deliver for free and the food is amazing! -
Years and years ago, before there was daylight, I worked at a drug store cafe combination called Tower Drug over on San Jacinto. They had a daily plate lunch for 85 cents. We had a customer who would order it to go and we would call a cab to deliver it. She paid the cab driver. There may be some places in Austin who would do that for you if you wanted to go to the expense.

Another great option is the Soup Peddler. They deliver once a week and they have a lot of great items. You can order online at http://www.souppeddler.com.

Have you tried Meals on Wheels? It sounds like that's exactly what you're looking for. http://www.mealsonwheelsandmore.org/

re: gkx
Doorbell Dinners (www.doorbelldinners.com) are really good. They are also fairly flexible with how they prepare your order, in case there are special dietary requirements.
