Going in January to Monterey/Carmel for one night. I'm looking for Chowhound recommendations for:

* lunch near the Monterey Bay Acquarium
* dinner in downtown Carmel

Any type of cuisine or style is fine. Just looking for delicious food in a lively, fun (no coat or tie) atmosphere.

Thanks for your help.

    There is a restaurant at the aquarium called Portola. I haven't eaten there but maybe someone who has will post. You might "google" to take a look at it.

      When I was in Carmel in September I ate dinner at the Carmel Chophouse and daGiovanni's. They were both excellent.

      For lunch near the aquarium, try Bistro Moulin. It is one block above the aquarium, has a great little menu, friendly servers and chowhound worthy food prepared by the chef/owner Didier, who used to be the chef at Casanova's in Carmel for over 20 years.

      For dinner in Carmel...hmm...daGiovannis is very reliable Meditteranean fare, the Carmel Chop House for carnivores, Grasing's or Flaherty's for seafood.
