Meatball Sausage Casserole with Ginger & Basil Penne (recommend this recipe)

My friend has been making a meatball sausage dish served with ginger basil penne using a recipe by Pierre Franey* for quite a few years now, and it's such a winner. Very flavorful and comforting. Recently I shared the recipe with fellow CH'r chefchicklet, who made it and said it was so good that I should point it out to all of you as well. So here goes.

I'm also attaching some photos I took a couple of days ago of my friend was making this terrific dish.
The penne with ginger and basil is amazing, we like it with a little more ginger than the recipe calls for.

    Either recipe, either for the meat or penne, is a delicious dish on its own too, certainly.

          Crosby, All I can say is that my husband loved this dish, he is begging me to make it again as a side for Christmas Day. So I am. Yes, and the smell while cooking is crazy good!

            didn't do the penne...just the sauce.....fabuloso!! sorry for taking so long to get back!!

              We just made the sauce and the photos really helped as Pierre didn't specify slicing the sausage. It is going to be hard to keep this away from prying fingers- it smells delicious!
              Tomorrow we will make the pasta and enjoy- thanks. We always loved Pierre Franey.
              Right now we are watching football and beef stew is in the oven.

              This is truly a delicious pasta dish.
              The basil and ginger with the pasta penne really add another dimension to this spectacular saucy dish. We love hot Italian sausages and meatballs, the sausages add so much rich flavor to the red sauce, giving it just the right amount of kick.
              Absolutely delicious.
              I couldn't resist, I had to make this dish the other night, after seeing the photos. I wanted to know what it was, and I wanted to make it now. After hearing the ingredients and having just about everything on hand, I plunged ahead.

              The cumin in the meatballs is a wonderful addition, and believe me when I tell you, they were moist! The sauce is so rich and wonderful, your house will smell like Mama Mia herself is in your kitchen cooking dinner.

              Thanks again morebubbles for the reliable recipe and this new addition to my repertoire, I know it will be used often, my husband is still talking about this meal!
