Takeout dinner in NE Portland/burbs

We're visiting the inlaws in Gresham for a few days right after Christmas. M-i-l doesn't get around so well, so dinner out is a big production, and not possible every day. We'll probably want to pick up dinner and bring it home at least one night. On past visits, the folks' suggestions for restaurants to get it from have been...lacking (okay, they were lousy). Can any Portland folks here recommend anyplace in that vicinity that will do a decent takeout dinner? All we ask is that it's better than fast food, and not too spicy or exotic (in consideration of the 80-something inlaws). Any help will be appreciated!

Not sure if they're takeout friendly, but Ringside is close enough to Gresham.

Not the best - but Szechwan Kitchen should be alright.

I think they are, although they don't advertise it. My husband got it for me for my last dinner before childbirth while I was at the the hospital. (mmmmmm....much better than than hospital food) Both the steak and creamed spinach held up surprisingly well.

Thanks, y'all! This gives us a lot more to work with than we've had in the past.

Casa Del Pollo is supposed to have very good rotisserie chicken, beans and fried plantains: http://www.casadelpollo.com/

The Buster's in Gresham isn't bad for BBQ: http://www.bustersbarbecue.com/

Country Cat (in Portland, but further out toward Gresham) has good food and is a bit fancier if you want to go out to eat. They may also pack up food to go for you - call and ask. http://www.thecountrycat.net/ Here's a menu from there from October: http://www.pfmenus.com/?p=67

I have to say that Full Plate on NE Fremont sounds like it was made for you. It's a takeout-only place owned by Marco Shaw of Fife and the woman from Alameda Cafe. They only have contact info online so far: http://www.fullplatetakeout.com/

I stopped in and picked up a menu, and the food seemed like it would be acceptable for unadventurous eaters (I'm remembering meatloaf, mac&cheese, greens, etc). This might not sound like very exciting food, but if it's anything like Fife the execution is very good.

I agree completely, and was thinking the same thing. This perfectly fullfils your request.

You could also consider takeout at New Seasons, a grocery store.

OP - Please note that the above recommendations (although excellent) are not convenient to your in-laws home in Gresham.

Wow, you're right. I just assumed that since the closest store was 15-20 miles away that they wouldn't. Thanks for pointing that out!

I can't say for sure that NS will deliver that far. I just know that they have a service.

I'll have to put in another vote for Full Plate. They're right across from the Beaumont market and the staff at Fife Restaurant, using their same organic ingredients, prepare fresh, ready to take home and reheat dinners. The menu really focuses on the comfort food that you look for on an average week night but don't have the means or time to create at home. You can jump in there, pick out family favorites for each person, side dishes, grab a bottle of wine or soda, dessert and head out the door in 10 minutes. it's loads of fun... try it out! My family has used FP quite a few times now and we've really enjoyed our meals.

Their website isn't up and running yet, but from what I understand, you'll be able to place orders online during the day, specify when you'll stop by to pick it up, and your dinner will be ready and waiting for you. I can't wait!

Typhoon! has a restaurant in Gresham, it's Thai and can be spicy but you can always request that they tone it down. Most of the time I consider them decent food, nothing amazing, but every once in awhile they seem to really step it up. (maybe it's weekday vs. weekend? I don't know) Their seasonal menu is always interesting and seems to be more a combo of NW ingredients prepared Thai style much of the time. (I was VERY happy with the lamb shanks in a mussaman curry the last time I was there)

La Loma (fresh Mexican) (2245 NE Burnside Rd) also ranks as acceptable but can be inconsistent. The refried beans are cooked daily and are excellent; the margaritas are tasty and NOT from a mix.

I hope other posters have more to offer because after living there for a year, I'm getting pretty tired of having to drive 20 miles just to get some decent chow...and with a full time job and a 16 month old child, what I wouldn't give for better take-out. (Chinese PLEASE!)
