Best sushi in Monterey Bay area - please don't say Robata's
I'm not a big fan of Robata's in Carmel but that's the only place we ever end up going for sushi. Any other suggestions?
I have had good sushi in Carmel at Sushi Heaven.
Ichi Riki is the old timer in the area and is on Del Monte Avenue between Monterey and Seaside.
The new place in town (which may show how behind the times I am) is a place on Alvarado , downtown called Kawa. Have not tried it.
Didn't think much of Jugem, but I haven't been there in years.
I have had very good meals at Hanagasa in Carmel (near Sunset Center parking lot), and so not so great meals. The chef is quite taciturn and if he is in the groove, then you should be ok. Otherwise it is just good.
re: Food Tyrant
Believe it or not, there's quite a bit of good sushi in Salinas. Try Shogun or Kokoro in Oldtown, or Ikebana on North main. It's not Carmel, but you can mix it with a movie at the Maya. Ikebana's big on "different" rolls, such as those with Macadamia nuts or Cream cheese, and Shogun and Kokoro are more traditional.
