I want to try my hand at making homemade soups this winter. Can you make some cookbook recommendations? I prefer rich, complex flavors -- light, brothy soups I can improvise! Thanks!

We're huge soup eaters and are very fond of Twelve Months of Monastery Soup. The recipes are designed around seasonal produce; but can be easily modified.

--the dairy hollow book, all of deborah madison's books--not just her soup book, "soup as a way of life" by barbara kafka, the monastery book, "the soups of france" by lois anne rothert-- come to mind right away, and lots of great soup recipes are buried in regular cookbooks as well.

what kinds of soups do you want to make?
