I was in Paris in November (2007) and we had some absolutely fabulous meals. First of all, if you are going, be sure to check online. We got a listing of restaurants by arrondisment. There are SO many more kosher restaurants in Paris than in NY. We must be doing something wrong here.

First place we checked out was Sushi Ouest which was near our hotel. The sushi was wonderful, very fresh! Better than Sushi Metsuyan by my reconning. They also had meat and dairy (mozzerella?) on the menu - I'm guessing the dairy was fake. Didn't try either so can't comment.

That evening we had a wonderful meal at Cafe Belvedere. A real Parisian experience - the table next to us was feeding a poodle table scraps and the customers were puffing up a storm with their cigarrettes. On the table were pistachio nuts for starters. One delish appetizer was foie gras with poached eggs on a salad with a creamy vinegrette served with fake ham. We had steaks for mains, runny chocolate soufles for dessert. I don't recall the wine but it was a very good Bordeaux that was unavailable in the States.

Another evening we went to Osmos - a "Fusion" restaurant. While not cheap, the food here was outstanding and as was the funky decor. We had a foie gras terrine with fig marmalade (fabulous) and a yummy mysterious ice cream (foie gras?), carrot soup with orange ices, savory mini tarts, and that was all before the main course arrived. We each had a tasting plate of dessert which included shot glasses of chocolate mousse and coconut mousse, spoonfuls of swirled banana and strawberry sherbet, spoons of creme brulee, 4 different mini fruit tarts, a layered creme mini cake, and a molten chocolate souffle. We were 6 people and drank the following:

Laurent Perrier Rose Brut
Chateau Pontet-Canet Pouillac 2002
Chateau Leoville Poyferre St. Julien 2001
Chateau Guiraud Sauternes 1999
(plus a goodly quantity of cognac)

As we were leaving the maitre d' arrived with shots of Absolut infused with pieces of mango. I'm not usually fond of vodka but this was tasty enough to sip.

The last night we were at another French food restaurant, Le Cosy, and had a 2006 Recanati Rose (not available in the US due to its limited run) and a Laurent Perrier Brut. The proprietor was a really nice guy. More foie gras, steaks, and chocolate souffles (are you seeing a pattern?)

We would have gone to Le Telegraph but I understand it closed.

We also stopped by a kosher grocery to stock up on a variety of cheeses and the only kosher Chateauneuf du pape - until recently unavailable in the US. I'm not sure of the vintage and producer but can find out if you are interested.

THought I'd share for the enjoyment of all.
