Looking for good selection of rolling kitchen islands in CT

javaandjazz Dec 17, 2007 10:05 AM

I am looking for a rolling kitchen island in CT and willing to drive. I see many nice models online but would rather see them in person. Nothing cheap or from Ikea please. I am looking for quality. Saw some from Catskill that looked very nice online. Thanks, Richie

It might be difficult to find Catskill Craftsmen (and Home Styles, the other major ready-to-assemble manufacturer) in stores, I believe. A couple of years ago I went on a rather fruitless quest to find a one in-store that I could afford, minus the cheap ones that wouldn't hold up to rigorous use. I found that these manufacturers primarily deal with direct-to-consumer shipping, despite being offered at various stores.

I ended up buying a Home Styles one via target.com when they had free shipping. For the price ($350) it was one of my best investments. A google of "Wood Top Natural Kitchen Cart with Breakfast Bar" will show you the one I have. The cabinets and drawers could be deeper, as I can't keep a knife tray in there or any large pots. That said, it's nearly indispensable for both cooking and creating a walk-around serving bar for parties.

There's a place in Manchester called Dining Furniture Showroom that may home some, as well as Kloter Farms.

    Good luck!

Check out the Cook's Nook in Norwalk, on Route 1. It's between Exit 13 and Exit 14. Close landmarks are Stop and Shop (on the same side and just across a side street), Sports Authority (across the street), Post Road Diner (where you'll find some good chow, in case you're feeling peckish).

I'd highly recommend The Mill Stores in Manchester, CT. www.millstores.com
You can't buy online but it will give you an idea of what they offer and pricing. I bought my wife a hardwood Island with a granite top for $429 and it was factory finished (they sell unfinished furniture primarily but have lots of finished items. Real nice hardwood, plus fully assembled so none of that ready to assemble particle board junk like Ikea.

My local Cape Cod store does for a modest charge...I think it was like $40-$50 but not sure. Their website says they deliver throughout New England so give them a call and see.

I'm taking a ride up there friday night after work and look at the one that is on sale. It's perfect for what I want. Thanks very much! Richie

Don't forget to check out their ad for the 20 % off coupon. You can find it on the website.

I have the coupon but it says it doesn't apply to sale items.

I took a ride up to the Mill Stores and of course they did not have the island I was looking at and they were very wishy washy as to they were expecting another delivery. So, I ended up buying this model online. http://sunnykitchen.com/michaelscott/...
Thanks for all your help, Richie
