Provelone question

I'm on my way to Los Angeles to visit an ex-Brooklynite. I asked her if I can bring anything, suggesting bagels. She said, no, she can find half-decent bagels, but I should bring some good, crumbly, oily, stinky provelone. I am happy to oblige, but I can't believe there's no good imported provelone anywhere in L.A. Is this true, Chowhounds? Am I doomed to be sender of stinky care packages? Or does anyone know where the stuff can be bought out there? Thanks.

The Greek Market on Normandie and (I think) Pico has good, imported, crumbly Provelone, for anyone who can't get care packages from NY and wants it.

It's also just a fun place to look around-- they have a regular store as well as tables and prepared food.

There is provelone at all the usual Italian delis--Bay Cities in Santa Monica, Roma in Pasadena, Claro's in San Gabriel and Covina (who age it), as well as at the Beverly Hills Cheese Shop--but it's overwhelmingly the mediocre Auricchio brand, and indeed seems less wonderful than it might be. As a side note: the bagels at Brooklyn Bagel on Beverly at Alvarado are actually better than anything you can get in NY right now.

Thanks, Pepper-- maybe I'll swap her some provelone mailings for some great bagels!
