I'm looking to buy good quality coffee beans in Miami (and elsewhere in South Florida). Is there a raved-about or recommended in-town roaster? I've learned that roasted coffee beans last in quality for up to 2 weeks from the time they were roasted.

I'm also willing to buy imported if they tend to be better.

And I found out WagonWheel coffee beans are grown in Davie, FL - the only coffee plantation in the continental US. Are they any good comparing with the other stuff we can get here?

Only place I can think of that roasts their own is Baby's down in Key West.

I'm fascinated by the initiative of someone attempting to grow coffee in Davie, but I suspect there's a good reason coffee isn't grown domestically (other than Hawaii).

Baby's hasn't roasted their bean in the Keys for I few years. I think they moved it to the mainland but still have a shop in the Keys. Island Joes is the only one who does now and seems to be winning awards right and left for his coffee.

While the coffee beans in Davie are obviously grown locally, Food & Wine made an article "Best Boutique Roasters" http://www.foodandwine.com/articles/taste-test-coffee-1 and it showed Volcanica of Coral Springs being one of the best in the country alongside with the famed Intelligentsia coffee.

Maybe it would be a good idea to encourage local coffee shops to carry beans from a local roaster like Volcanica. It seems like their beans are good (and obviously the only one mentioned in South Florida by the magazine) - amazing how it just was under our nose all this time!

Great find. Had no idea anyone roasted coffee here. Selection for Volcanica seems limited and high end (Kona, Blue Mountain, etc.).
