Estrada Mexican restaurant, Daly City

Many years ago, we always stopped at Estrada when driving north from the airport. Is it still there? Do they still serve that fantastic "hot salad"?

A recent post on the Calif board asked about Estrada's tostada compuesta,

Anyone been to Estrada's in Colma (Daly City) lately?

According to http://www.allmenus.com/menus/55205/E... they still serve the fried chicken and the tostada compuesto. There's no mention of a "hot" salad, but salad IS served with meals.

I always thought Estrada's was known for their fried chicken which was/is pretty good. Do they still serve it or has it been taken over?

Any way, interesting place from a historical perspective. It was originally built and run to accommodate people going to and from the near by cemeteries.

Here's the Place link . . . now who's had the sizzling salad lately?

Before posting I checked the online menu...no hot salad. I was wondering if some nouveau Mexican bought the place, and modernized the recipe. I have never seen the "hot salad" (tostado with hot vinegar) anywhere else. Since it is somewhat out of the way, it may have simply lost its appeal.

Sometimes dishes like that which don't travel well aren't listed on online to-go menus. There are current references to this salad elsewhere on the web. The macaroni on the side also seems to be a trademark. If you check directly with the restaurant about this, please do let us know.

It's been years, but their "must order" dish was called "tostada compuesta" way back when.

Looking at some recipes online for tostada compuesta, that does seem to be the dish made with vinaigrette sizzling on the plate.
