Appetizer ideas when fondue is the main course

Doing traditional cheese fondue for dinner on Christmas Eve but having trouble coming up with appetizer ideas as many include cheese. Any good ideas out there that dont' include cheese?

    something wrapped in bacon?
    shrimp, aspargus,breadsticks, scallops

      Maybe a nice assortment of olives. Salads also come to mind---something cool as a counterpoint to the fondue. Seafood salad in olive oil and lemon, caesar salad, or even just a simple green salad.

        Definitely salad.

        Possibly also crispy chickpeas, roasted chestnuts, fridge pickles, fennel wedges, mushrooms stuffed with tapenade.

        good quality pepperoni, salami, roasted peppers, love the idea of pickles, olives too.
        some good crusty bread of course...mini meatballs (turkey or lamb would be a nice change)...grilled chicken tenders on a skewer with an asian dipping sauce, zuchinni boats filled with a dip...now I'm hungry!

          With all the rich cheese to follow, maybe start with something really light, shrimp cocktail perhaps. Then a salad, special it up with poached pears and toasted pecans or something, maybe a sprinkle of pomegranate seeds.

            Are you doing both cheese and meat fondues? If so, maybe a cup of rich, well-seasoned mushroom broth with a few mushroom and scallion shreds floating about.

              It depends on what you are dipping.
              I think I'd also go with the cold items like crudities(sp?) and cold shrimp but if you are dipping those items, Cheese fondue being both rich and somewhat salty. I would go in the opposite direction and start with platters of finger fruits, like sections of orange and grapes/strawberries/pineapple chunks. That will soon have everyone craving the salt, heat and thickness of melted cheese
