Dim Sum for 10 - recs?

Houndz,

We usually go to Yank Sing as a New Years ritual. Like to try something different, and hopefully better. Fresh, authentic, good service. Not real high end. Is it true to try to get a table near the kitchen?

Candidates:

Yet Wah on Clement
Ton Kiang on Geary

What about City View? Any others?

Thanks in advance.

Since Yet Wah is very popular with local Chinese, you may have trouble getting in with that number. If you can, I think Yet Wah is the best bet for reasonable and tasty dim sum.

If you are willing to go down to Millbrae as others suggest, you might want to consider some of the other choices there like Zen Peninsula. Here's a very informative thread:

Recently a fellow hound said the Riverside in the Parkside area had good dim sum and S&T (it may have a newer name) in Sunset is also good. Both are in San Francisco.

But even if HKFL in not good there is still a lot of higher end dim sum places in Millbare.

        Zen Pen
        The Kitchen
        Fook Yuen
        Asian Pearl

The first three are walking distance from BART.

But be aware both New Year's Day are real busy and for a party of ten you sure call now to get a reservation.

But do report back on which you are going to.

I also agree with the Hong Kong Flower Lounge suggestion....I think it's definitely worth a trip to Millbrae (unless you all already live in the Richmond)

Are you hoping to get dim sum on New Year's Day?

Hong Kong Flower Lounge in Millbrae has better food than either of the places you've listed and is less expensive and high end than Yank Sing. With easy BART and freeway access, I find it takes no longer to get there than to many of the places in the RIchmond.

It's where I do all my unruly family gatherings. If you want to stay in the city, I've had good experiences at Mayflower but haven't been recently.

I'm a little concerned about recommending HKFL, given pane's and Jasmin's reports of their office lunches there. Also, it has changed ownership recently, as has been reported by Gary. Here's a link to the pending transfer of the ABC license and temporary permit, http://www.abc.ca.gov/datport/LQSData...

I'm going the day after Christmas. Will report back if I see anything amiss, but that would surprise me, given how consistent it's been for more than 10 years (15?), back when they were on Geary.
