Yummy Thai in Sacramento near Old Town

We are having a graduation dinner for my sister in Sacramento Saturday night and need a good place for 7 to go for Thai. We are from San Francisco and are used to good Thai food and hope that someone can recommend something good in Sacramento. Hopefully at a reasonable price!!! Thanks!!!

Depends on if you have a car or not. I like Tuk Tuk - which is about a 10 min drive north of Old Town - for Thai. It also big enough and nice enough for a graduation dinner. It is in a strip mall, but do not fear. Nothing is within walking distance, and downtown Thai is really for the lunch crowd.

The closest decent Thai restaurant to Old Sac is Gaesorn (at 9th and K--about eight blocks away). Good, not great. Chada and Taste of Thai (both at 17th and Broadway) fall into the same category. Thai Palace (36th and J) is little further away and a little better. IMHO, the best Thai food in town is about 4 miles up I-5 at Bangkok Garden.

As far as Vientiane goes, it's great food, but it's not Thai. Also, it's a good way away from Old Sac in a neighborhood that might be an issue, especially at night--it's adjacent to a motel that is popular among the (hmm, how to put this) "professional" crowd.

Vientiane has moved from the motel location. As the name indicated, it's not thai indeed.

No Thai restaurant near Old Town that I know of. You'll have go to midtown along H and J streets to find good Thai.

Vientiane (1001 W Jefferson, West Sacramento) is one of the best southeast Asian restaurant around. It's Laotian.
