Bad treatment in Theatre District Restaurant

Made a 6:00 reservation at Chez Josephine, 42nd between 9th and 10th, for last night-my first time there. When we arrived I gave my name and was told we didn't have a reservation. I told the gentleman (term used loosely) who I spoke with, when it was made and what phone # I gave.

He said "I don't have it. We are sold out" And he promptly dismissed us by looking behind me and acknowleging the party who came in behind us.

I understand these things happen, but I think he should have apologized, offered us a drink, asked if he could seat us later or on amother day. He was rude and obnoxious.

I will never go back there.

The Good Part - We walked across the street to the West Bank Cafe and were seated without a reservation even though it was very crowded. Staff very friendly and competent, menu diverse and reasonably priced. Meal was delicious! I found a great pre theatre restaurant!

Thanks Chez Josephine, for trating me sooo badly!

Talk about one door closing and another opening..Literally! You were treated very poorly indeed. As it happens, Chez Josephine is a touristy type place. You ended up at a much better place. If something like that were to happen again, ask to speak with the Mgr or, if that was the person who dismissed you, ask for the Owner. Complain that you are being refused service due to incompetence on the part of the person with whom you spoke when you made your reservation. If that doesn't do the trick, inform the Mgr that you intend to complain to the Host Reps at your hotel. and that you intend to post a negative review online Restaurants don't like that b/c many of their reservations are recc from nearby hotels. or from online reccs. Of course, if you have to go through all of this, I'm sure you won't want to eat there anymore, If it wasn't for the theatre trade, places like Chez Josephine would have gone out a long time ago.
I'm glad you liked the West Bank Cafe and didn't let your initial bad experience taint your evening.
