Hey Chowhounders, does anyone know where one could buy bottles of aquavit in Toronto? The LCBO used to carry one brand, called Aqkvavit, but it's recently been removed from their inventory. Any help would be appreciated!

We're screwed, alas. All Aalborg varieties were de-listed in the fall. You can always make your own simply by steeping caraway and dill seeds in vodka. It's likely still available in Quebec, as a sympathetic LCBO worker mentioned recently. Xmas and New Year's won't be quite the same without it.

you could try finding out who the import agent used to be for the brand the lcbo carried. they might still bring it in on consignment, but you'd have to buy a whole case. or, you could try finding it in buffalo. or you could try making it yourself, as the other poster suggested. caraway, dill, star anise -- you name it. pretty much any herb or spice can and has been used at some point.
