French Macarons in Dallas

  • 5

I just returned from Paris where I fell in love with French Macarons... Yummy wasabi/greentea, chocolate/orange, caramel/fleur de sel, and more... Does anyone know a bakery shop in town that makes them? I heard through an underground foodie blog that there's a guy in Red Oak who makes them, but I'm not sure how to reach him...

  1. Main Street Bakery in Grapevine makes them on weekends. I've only seen two, and they're both large sizes. One is a chocolate and one is a raspberry. The chocolate is filled with a chocolate buttercream and is very good. The raspberry I haven't had, but it's filled with a mix of some filling and whole raspberries. They have a shop in Plano too.

I also talked to the owner of Rush Pattiserie and she said she makes them sometimes, and in a variety of flavors. I've never had any of hers though, but my understanding is that they are the smaller size. I'm looking forward to what others people find.

If you're baking inclined David Lebowitz has a good recipe with good instructions. They're not easy cookies, but certainly impressive. http://www.davidlebovitz.com/archives...

talking abt Rush... is it closing the Elm St location to open up on Lemmon? I saw the sign as i was driving past the other day on Lemmon near oaklawn.

    2. Bistro Bakery in San antonio makes a perfect (french) Macaroon like you find in paris fancy Pastry shops. i highly recommend!!!! they are fresh daily.

      1. Chef Joe Baker makes them out of his home in Irving under the Texas Cottage Act - go to www.joe-the-baker.com to order.
