Sandbagging: Notable New Spots in Allston-Brighton

Alright I have been sandbagging. There is a new Greek place in Brighton that looks very promising (a friend ate there and loved it) and I have not had a chance to check it out. I was holding off posting until I got to eat there first. Part of the competitive chowhounding sport of "first-chowing." That said, a few weeks have elapsed and I have not gotten there so heck, I will throw down the gauntlet: who is gonna beat me to the first post?

Not exactly sure why they call it a bakery as they seem to specialize in dumplings and the like. Looks VERY promising!

I checked out Esperia a few weeks ago based on good word of mouth. Just had a gyro, greek salad and spanikopita but thought the quality was high and it is a nice addition to the neighborhood. It won't displace Greek Corner and Farm Grill in Newton as my favorites but it is close to home and I will be back to Esperia to try some other dishes.

we also tried it and I had a bite of my wife's spanakopita. Good but not great. I agree that it's a nice addition to a small but growing list of Brighton Center spots. A dim sum bakery would be nice to have there amidst the wealth of really good cheap eats along Brighton Ave.

Gitlo's could be interesting. I wonder if you still have to open the trap door in the floor in order to go to the bathroom? ;-b
