smoked salmon at room temperature

Does anyone have any thoughts on how long smoked salmon can keep at room temperature?

  1. half an hour to an hour or it starts to go oily I would say.

    1. The standard for food safety is no more than two hours in the danger zone of 40 to 140 degrees.

thanks for the input. i was trying to figure out if it was safe to take with me and eat on a plane.

      2. We eat a lot of smoked salmon and have no problem leaving it out for a 2-3 hours. Coldsmoked/lox I wouldn't leave out too much longer while hotsmoked can be left for more time. That said - if you want to eat it on the plane which is something we usually do, have it well chilled or frozen before you go, put in amongst the items to insulate a bit, then by the time you eat it, it will either be just room temp or just thawed.

Thanks. I'll try freezing it before I go.
