Florence for Christmas

bropaul Dec 11, 2007 04:26 PM

Good friends will be in Florence for a week over Christmas, arriving the 23rd and leaving on the 30th. Their big concern is eating on the 24th and 25th. Does anyone have any sure bets? They are staying in an apartment and have the option to cook, so they won't starve. They'd prefer to eat out, though.

If you look at TripAdvisor's Italy forum, you'll find a (not very inspiring) list that someone has put together of restaurants in Florence open on December 25.

it seems to me (after 3 trips to Italy during the Christmas/New Year/Jan season) that restauranteurs mostly close when they feel like closing and may not do the same thing every year - maybe depending on when Christmas falls in the week, when their regular weekly closing day is, etc. In our experience there are always some restaurants open (maybe not even half but some), so your friends, wandering around on their arrival day, should get a pretty good idea of which places will be open and what not (signs are always posted) -f they see one they are interested that is open, well walk in and make a reservation.. Also, they should be sure to get in some supplies for their apartment before Christmas day though, because stores will be closed on that day. Not very much help, Im afraid.

That's good advice. I'll pass it along.
