Any ideas for a fun place to catch up with old college girlfriends? East or West Village preferred, and entrees $20 or below would be fantastic.

Thanks!!!

Xunta Tapas is good for hanging out with friends and drinking sangria. They also have a flamenco dancer on Thursday and Saturday nights but it's packed as a result and you would need to reserve a 'barrel' table. Some people complain of bad service but I've never had an issue there. We loved the octopus so much - the waitress asked the kitchen for cooking directions so we could make it at home.

      melanie -

that's a shame! also, note that the review is from 8 months ago - they may have cleaned-up their act since then...
we were there on saturday night at 8:00pm, and we couldn't have asked for better service - our waitress was really sweet and the food came out in a very timely fashion. i had a traditional cheese burger with lettuce, tomato, onions, and pickles, and it was cooked perfectly and tasted delicious. a friend of mine had steak au poivre, which she loved, and two others had pasta dishes - wild mushroom ravioli and penna a la vodka. i tasted both, and they were delicious.
i would hope you - or others - wouldn't let one negative review 'scare you away'. i suggest you give it a shot.

virage, in the east village. friends and i went out there on saturday night - very cute atmosphere, the food was awesome and very reasonably-priced (one girl had steak au poivre and it was $18...the most expensive thing any of us ordered), and the service was wonderful as well.

This place is right by my house and I wanted to try it, but this review scared me away... http://www.chowhound.com/topics/394168
