Every year, as a Jewish family, we have been going to a Chinese Buffet restaurant near our house in Central New Jersey on Christmas (a.k.a. my parents anniversary and my aunt's birthday).

We'd like other suggestions as to other restaurants that will be open, good for two 10 year olds, and something we don't normally do the rest of the year. We are in central NJ (South Brunswick).

Any thoughts will be appreciated. Nothing religious, please.

No specific places come to mind, but how about Dim Sum ... maybe someplace in the Edison area will be open or Japanese Hibachi (good for 10 yr olds).

I would think Korean restaurants will be open, so you might want to consider doing Korean BBQ. Great fun and terrific for groups. You cook your own meat, chicken, etc., at a grill in the center of your table, then wrap them in lettuce leaves along with sauces. An assortment of little dishes called "panchan" is served. They differ at each restaurant but generally include various pickled and spicy vegetables, seaweed, even potato salad. But one thing that is always included is the Korean staple, "kim chi" (spicy, fermented cabbage).

There are a number of Korean restaurants in the Edison area. The only one we've been to is Woo Jeon, on Route 1. To be honest, I wasn't crazy about their bbq, and I found the panchan particularly disappointing. But maybe Hounds who have tried others can make recommendations.

You may want to consider Sunny Garden on Route 1 south in Princeton (West Windsor). They are a bit more upscale than a buffet, yet offer a wide range of cuisine and they're family friendly. Not sure of their holiday schedule, but here's their website:
