Hello there!

I am new to the boards. My wife and I, along with some friends, will be visiting Wien and Prague from Dec 22nd through Dec 30th. We will be in Wien until the 26th.

I searched earlier posts and found one from last year that referenced The Sacher as a good place to dine for either night. The post also referred to the fact that most of the hotel restaurants will be open for dinner on both nights.

Any suggestions out there as to where to go for Christmas Eve and Christmas dinner? Is The Sacher still a valid recommendation?

We are in our late twenties/early thirties. Open minded and adventurous when it comes to dinning. We also love wine and beer so we are very much looking forward to our trip. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

My point was that ONLY hotel restaurants will be open on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, which severely restricts your choice to not-quite-top-of-the-range places.

The Hotel Sacher is as good a choice as other places, their food is definitely overpriced but eatable, you pay for the ambiente.

My main tip would have been to come at another time of the year (e.g. in November or in January), but since you are now on you way, you will have to find your way around between thousands of fellow tourists...

Thanks for the info. I will look into Hotel restaurants and see what strikes us. Any other places besides Hotel Sacher?

And yes, I am fully aware of the tourist onslaught but its the only time we could go. I suppose its better than not going.

Hotel Imperial
Hotel Triest (!) (Collio)
Grand Hotel (Le Ciel)
Hotel Marriott
Hotel Palais Coburg (!)
Hotel Radisson (Le Siecle)
Hotel Meridien
Hotel The Ring

All these have adequate restaurants. I fear that their more advanced restaurants all will be closed on Xmas day, such as the Collio in Hotel Triest.

Of this list, I would definitely recommend the Hotel Imperial. And don't feel you have to go the whole bore and dine in the grand restaurant if that's over the top. The cafe is just as charming.

We had a fantastic Thanksgiving dinner at Restaurant Coburg in Hotel Palais Coburg, however their website says that the restaurant is closed on holidays, which would certainly include Christmas and maybe Christmas Eve.

Thanks to all for the great advice.

I am an idiot for having waited so long to book and now I am paying the price. I was only able to book a table for 4 people at The Ring Hotel (@ Eight) on the 25th but have not been very fortunate to find anything in the hotels listed by Sturmi or any other place for the 24th. Only Le Ciel has openings on the 24th and they are for lunch. Perhaps we can eat there and have a late late lunch?!

Anyhow, thanks again for the wonderful advice.

If any one know of a place that might still have an opening on the 24th, please let me know.

Best Regards,

Hector,

You might try to get a table at Cantinetta Antinori, Procacci or Do&Co Albertina ...
