Oakland (Temescal) - Cafe Pippo is now Bear Naked Burgers - anyone been?

Located across from Walgreens in back of the pawnshop on the opposite corner of Bakesale Betty's.

Because this location shares the same kitchen with La Calca Loca, my guess is it is the same owners with a different menu.

Got some takeout a couple weeks ago. Happy to have something in the neighborhood. My impression is mostly positive. Burgers were very good. The buns are a significant improvement over Barney's. The cheese selection should be modified - cheddar was the sharpest option, and provolone and mozzarella are virtually the same thing - recommend swapping one of those out for some swiss. Our fries were greasy and on the cool side - suspect they'll be better on the next trip.

I stopped by Bear Naked Burgers to get dinner to go last night, and it gets the thumbs up from me. I should preface this by saying I don't eat red meat, so I didn't try a beef burger, but I did have a turkey burger and fries. The turkey burger was huge, not one of those flat little frozen patties, flavorful, and came on a large, substantial bun. I got mine with cheddar, which also seemed like an unusually generous portion. The shoestring fries were fantastic. Even after 15 minutes in the plastic to go contiainer, they were crispy and unusually flavorful.

They have both 1/2 and 1/3 lb. beef burgers on the menu, along with tofu, garden and turkey burgers. Also hotdogs of several varieties, grilled sandwiches, including eggplant, blt, grilled chicken breast, pan fried turkey, smoked ham, and tuna melt. They also offer a nice variety of salads. The sides are limited to four kinds of fries (pimenton (spanish smoked paprika, according to their menu), garlic, plain, chili and coleslaw. To drink they have various coffee drinks, sodas, teas, milkshakes and malts.

This is defiinitely a great addition to the neighborhood...obviously nothing fancy, but perfect when I get a hankering (which I do with regularity) for burger and fries.

        Thanks ... hot dogs ... I'm there.

You are right, there's not much burger-wise in that area besides Smokehouse.

I think they had hot dogs, chili dogs with homemade chili, and italian sausages. Definitely get the fries :-)
