Hi! We'll be in Scottsdale & Phoenix with limited time & need some food recs for lunch and dinner that are fairly close by two hotels we'll be staying in and two places we'll be visiting:

Holiday Inn Express, 620 N 6th near Fillmore, Phoenix
State Capitol, W Washington St & 17th Av, Phoenix
Holiday Inn Express, 3131 N Scottsdale near Earll, Scottsdale
Taliesin West

We like everything except sushi; we esp like SW, Mexican, other Latin, Caribbean, BBQ, Indian,Thai, noodles, other Asian, mideastern, eastern European, Spanish, Creole/Cajun, places with good desserts or bakeries, and we want places that not too expensive. Also, locations of a good ice cream parlor for a possible snack. Please indicate locations of places if at all possible. Thanks so very much for your help!

I'll start this with some recommendations in Downtown Phoenix. All recommendations are no more than one mile from your hotel at 6th and Fillmore; some are within walking distance. See the place links for exact locations.

Tacos de Juarez -- Unpretentious and delicious Mexican food. Much more on the menu than just tacos.

The Roosevelt -- Pub with beer, wine, sandwiches, snacks, etc.

Fate -- Chinese and other Asian foods in an arsty atmosphere

Tammie Coe Cakes & MJ Bread -- primarily a retail bakery, but also delicious sandwiches for lunch each day.

Thai Hut -- good Thai in an old diner across from the Phoenix Art Museum

Calabria Italian Grocery & Deli -- excellent sandwiches

Los Dos Molinos -- fiery New Mexican food in a new location near Downtown

Tradiciones -- full-service restaurant next to Phoenix Ranch Market, a huge supermarket serving mostly Hispanic shoppers; also a food court inside the market for more casual dining.

Mrs. White's Golden Rule Cafe -- soul food; lunch only

CityBakery at AZ Science Center -- excellent choice for lunch; within the grounds of the Science Museum, but does not require museum admission. Features a dozen flavors of gelato every day.

Taste of Yogurt -- Miss Karen's frozen yogurt -- not necessarily an artisanal treat -- but served with a wide variety of toppings by really nice people.(Couldn't create a place link for this one, but it's on the NE corner of 1st Ave and Washington).

Sweet Pea -- small selection of lunches and wonderful cookies and tarts for dessert.
